Cynthia Emersley is second generation Eurasian living in Kandy. Her paternal and maternal grandfathers, a civil engineer and planter, (English and Irish/Scottish respectively) both married Sinhala Kandyans. Growing up on plantations and in boarding schools Cynthia’s childhood and adolescence was spent in the company of the close knit Eurasian community.
